Police Angry That DA in Texas Won’t Prosecute Without.. You Know.. Evidence

In Victoria County, Texas police are said to be frustrated and even “alarmed” because the District Attorney won’t prosecute all of their arrests.

The DA says, “Well provide some freakin’ evidence and perhaps I will be able to prosecute!” Well, I guess he didn’t say it precisely like that, but you get the idea. He’s telling them that lack of evidence is why more cases aren’t being prosecuted.

District Attorney did say to them, flat out, “If you cannot do your duty, you need to resign and give the duty to someone who can.” Oh, Snap!

During the first 7 months of Steve Tyler’s term as District Attorney in Victoria County, he declined to prosecute 36 percent of all adult criminal cases and 50 percent of all the juvenile cases.

One local police chief is complaining that the rate of criminal arrests that are not being prosecuted is double what it was under the previous District Attorney. He says his investigators are highly trained and are presenting good cases and he wants to fix this situation.

Deputies and officers in Victoria County gather evidence in cases and then pass it on to DA Steve Tyler, he then makes a determination as to whether or not he thinks he can successfully prosecute the case.

A Texas Alcohol and Tobacco Commission sergeant is also complaining that it’s harder to get his cases prosecuted with this DA as well.

The previous DA says that he is behind Tyler, and says he just has a different method. The officers are just used to the old way of doing things and are having a problem trying to adapt to Tyler’s way of handling cases.

Legal guidelines in Texas require that prosecutors follow the law and see that justice is served, and that does not always mean prosecution and conviction.

Tyler stands by his record of declining to prosecute cases with insufficient evidence. He says that if the police don’t know the law, then they need to learn it. He says he will not compromise and lower his standards to make them happy and he will continue to function according to the law.

Well done Tyler. Put those pigs in their place!
