Not A Lawyer

A Florida woman, Victoria Hosner, was arrested for DUI and spent the night in jail after her first driving lesson.

The 30 year old woman was born in England and has lived in the United States for about a year.  Her stepfather was attempting to teach her how to drive.  Perhaps he should have waited until she was sober first.

I can imagine what happened as if it were a scene from a movie. 

Apparently the door of the truck was open and Hosner was sitting in the driver’s seat.  Her stepdad was standing there, on the wrong side of the door.  The truck was in reverse and Hosner hit the gas when she thought she was putting her foot on the brake.  The door knocked the poor stepdad down and the truck ran over him.  He almost lost his leg as a result of the accident.

When the man was run over, his leg got bent sideways at a 90 degree angle and he was dragged by the truck across the street.  Yowwww!  It hurt to even type that part of the story.

Hosner apparently did not let up on the accelerator.  Still in reverse, the truck made a semi-circle back towards the driveway, jumped up over the curb and smashed into the garage. 

When police and paramedics arrived they smelled booze on Hosner’s breath.  The arrest report stated that her eyes were glassy and bloodshot.  She failed a field sobriety test and was taken downtown.

When she took the breath test, Hosner’s blood alcohol content reading was .146, well above .08 which is the legal limit in Florida and every other state.

Hosner’s husband says that she was not intoxicated.  Uh-huh.  Okay.

Hosner is charged with DUI, plus two counts of DUI with damage to a person or property of another person and driving without a license.  She was released from jail on $4,250 bail.
